The use of computers and other related electronic equipment in schools contribute to the generation of waste. This waste is expensive to dispose and also very much harmful. As a developing country South Africa through its bilateral relations with developed countries benefit from donations , for example computer donations to schools.
This is a nice blog.I don't know whether it is my lack of knowledge. It is for the first time to come across the concept e-Waste. Are you the one who coin the concept. I tried to google search for info but nit yealded no result. I wanted to contribute.
ReplyDeleteNow as an Education Specialist in Limpopo what is the contribution that you are puting in place for the implementation of ICT - What do you think about the recent teacher laptop initiatives that the government had put in place . Do you think that it will eliminate the e-waste that you are talking about? The draft paper on e-Education also talked about the refurbished devises , do you think that it wise? I think our schools need new computers and not the refurbished ones. Refurbished are not easy to upgrade. Why don't we get computers that are having current windows and the current offices
Quite an interesting blog! i like the idea of e-waste. what on earth is that? don't you think that the service providers for GDE are contributing towards e-waste? You can conduct a research on that subject and that can be very informative. I like your idea.
ReplyDeleteI thought that may be after you have read my comment you will be a position to can clarify me on some of the question that I raised . Don't you think that some of the material used can be recycled for future use. I think cables can be recycled an itd even plastic materials. This unused computers can also be refurbished for further used.I read an article where one of the cellular company request users to return the old and the unused cellphones so that they can recycle it . I think the same tread can be followed by computer manufacturers .If the old unused computer can be bought back for refurbishment it can also boost the economy as the collectors can also get cash
